Cross Country Roadtrip: Mitchell, SD

This morning when I woke up we were already on the move from dry camping in St. Joseph, MO (just a few miles north of Kansas City.) Joey and Uncle David had started driving around 4am. This was my first view of Iowa. It was gorgeous to watch the sun rise over the fields of corn.Speaking of corn.... have I mentioned we've seen a whole lot of it. Ever since Illinois a few hundred miles ago, we have passed miles and miles of corn fields. We stopped for breakfast at a McDonald's in a little country town in Iowa and I thought it was funny to see the local old dudes sitting around having their morning coffee like I'm sure they do every morning. I bet if Papa was here, he'd have pulled up a chair right along side them. So, I've mentioned we are riding in a motor home. Well, here it is. Joey is behind the wheel for a lot of the trip with Uncle David navigating beside him. Wanda is usually on the couch to the right and Jeremy is bouncing off of anything he can. I have always wanted to go camping in an RV, but really I can assure you this is NOTHING like camping... and definitely not "roughing it!"Jeremy checking out the scenery from the RV. Around noontime (depending what time zone you are in... and I really don't know what time zone we are in anyway) we stopped at the Corn Palace. This place has been has been around for over a hundred years. The local farmers donate portions of their corn crops to decorate this building completely in corn. Every year they have to make a new one because the birds eat the corn off the building.
This is the star across the front. It is actually made out of corn cobs. The inside is decorated with murals of all made out of corn.Jeremy is so interested in maps and loves looking to see where he is.
