2010 Road Trip: Grand Canyon National Park, AZ

***WARNING: Please be advised that I am almost completely against this post. I'm only doing this because I have OCD and couldn't possibly miss one post! I don't think that the Grand Canyon was not meant to photographed. I can't do it justice... it was meant to be experienced. It is enormous and beautiful and amazing and gorgeous and just big. Something only God could have thought of.The first day we got there we were just in time to watch the sun go down.
It got surprisingly cold at night... in the mid to low thirties. But hey, in my opinion, anything below 4o c
an cause frostbite.
I'm still loving all the different wildlife... This is a juniper tree. I've seen lots of juniper, but never any with flowers like this.
Ground squirrels are definitely my favorite kind of squirrel. I'm just saying.
Jeremy completed another Junior Ranger program. He is really getting the hang of them. So, we took him to this program for kids about stars. He really enjoyed it!
The California Condor is an endangered bird and supposedly it is very rare to see them. We actually saw two while we were there. (Sorry the photo is a little fuzzy)
Speaking of animals, we also saw an elk and several deer... but unfortunately for Jeremy no Mountain Lions. We also watched the mules ride down the mountain to Phantom Ranch one morning. I hope the people riding were less nervous than I was that they that the mules were going to just walk off the side of the cliff. There are NO rails in the Grand Canyon by the way.
The last night we were there, we road out to the point on the South Rim called Grand View to watch the sunset. We got there about an hour early and there were a few people already there scoping out their spots to get the best vantage point. By 7:30 (15 minutes to sunset) there were at least 60-80 people all standing around waiting. When the sun hit the top of the mountain everyone, kids included, were absolutely quite until the sun disappeared. Amazing.
As we were leaving, we stopped by the Watch Tower. If you look at the sunset picture above it where that tiny light is coming from.
