Family Vacation Day 1: FDR and Sweetwater Creek State Parks

Its that time of year again... summer trips to the mountains to escape the heat! This trip we went up to north Georgia to do a little geocaching and playing. We took the long way to Clarksville by way of FDR State Park to do a little hiking! I've been to nearby Calloway many times before... but never in the summer. It was really nice and a great place to do a little camping/hiking. Next time we will definitely have to stay longer!





Oh yeah, and we checked out the Roosevelt's Little White House just to say we've done something a little educational along the way!
Next stop was at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Atlanta. A few weeks ago I ran across a documentary style video on the park and promised that we WOULD make it here. We had hoped to stay several hours and do some real hiking but about 20 minutes into our walk we were in the middle of a torrential downpour! So, we didn't get to stay long. *insert pout-y face here* Maybe a birthday camping trip back here is in my future... we shall see!


This building which is right on the river was a civil war era textile mill used to make war time clothing, tents and gear. It was later used as a speakeasy. Interesting stuff... go read about it.
