Happy Birthday, DaYoung!
Today is DaYoung's 17th birthday. So, we celebrated with a little sushi. None of us had ever made it before, so Dayoung taught us how. First start with some rice. We bought the sticky rice, but I think some jasmine rice would work just as well... as long as it is very sticky. Dayoung added sesame seeds, a little soy sauce, and some olive oil (because we didn't have sesame oil) to make it "just like momma makes it." Although, she said the kind of sushi that we made is Japanese sushi and Korean sushi is different. We tried, that counts, right?
For veggies, everyone got to pick what they wanted of either sliced avocado, carrots and/or cucumber.
And some crab meat, shrimp and cream cheese.
Next, on the seaweed wraps you spread a little sesame oil (or some very light olive oil) all over one side of the wrap. Add your veggies and then roll it up.
Slice it in tiny pieces... or you can eat it like a burrito if you really want to.
And viola... SUSHI!
So, Happy Birthday, DaYoung! We love you (... and any reason to eat sushi!)
